In near perfect conditions at the Laguna Seca circuit today, Jorge Lorenzo under blue skies and a temperature of 24 degrees put in the quickest time of the day to take pole position for round eight of the MotoGP World Championship. The Fiat Yamaha rider set a best time of 1min 21.678 seconds but destroyed both bikes in the process. Hot on the Spaniard's heels was his team-mate Valentino Rossi and Marlboro Ducati's Casey Stoner with Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa in fourth. Britain's James Toseland ended his day down in fifteenth on the Monster Yamaha Energy Yamaha Tech 3 machine.
BSB : BROOKES TAKES POLE AT KNOCKHILL
Australian rider Josh Brookes will start from pole position for round six of the Visk.com British Superbike Championship at Knockhill in Scotland. The HM Plant Honda lapped the Scottish circuit in a time of 48.759 seconds in the final shoot-out qualifying session ahead of Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier and local hero Hydrex Honda's Stuart Easton with Worx Cresent Suzuki rider Michael Rutter taking the final slot on the front row in fourth.
WSBK : NORI HAGA'S OPERATION A SUCCESS
Nori Haga who crashed out in race two at Donington Park has had surgery to repair a fracture in his right arm where the surgical team deemed the operation a success after inserting plate and screws, and there were no signs of unforeseen complications. Nori and his family will fly home to Italy where he will begin physiotheraphy but the Ducati Xerox rider will not participate in the forthcoming tests at Imola but he should be fit to race in the next round at Brno in the Czech Republic.
